The Portable Document Format (PDF) is generally the recommended file format for submitting documents for printing. PDF files work well with professional printing and digital output devices, ensuring document consistency across different systems. Other file formats like Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Microsoft Word can easily be converted to PDF for printing purposes.
While modern technology has improved the accuracy of on-screen previews matching printed outputs, there can still be variations in colour calibration and spatial representation between monitors and printed materials. It’s important to note that achieving an exact colour match between what you see on your computer monitor and what is printed can be challenging, especially when using toner-based printers as opposed to ink-based printers. Toner-based printers may have limitations in accurately reproducing specific PMS (Pantone Matching System) colours. While exact colour matching may not always be possible, experienced printers can typically come close to matching most colours that are provided to them for printing. It’s recommended to communicate your colour preferences clearly and provide any colour references or samples to help the printer get as close as possible to your desired colours. If colour accuracy is critical for your project, requesting a physical proof or sample print before final production can help you assess and approve the colour output. This way, you can make any necessary adjustments or corrections to ensure the printed colours meet your expectations as closely as possible. By following these recommendations and working closely with your printer to communicate your colour preferences and provide references, you can improve the chances of achieving accurate and satisfactory colour reproduction in your printed materials.
Lamination involves applying a thin layer of plastic, usually on one side of a printed article, which is then trimmed flush to the edge. It comes in matte or gloss finishes and enhances the look, feel, and durability of the printed material. However, it is not completely waterproof. Encapsulation, on the other hand, involves sealing a printed article with a thin layer of tough plastic on both sides, creating a waterproof barrier. In essence, while both processes involve applying a protective plastic layer to printed materials, encapsulation offers superior waterproofing and durability compared to lamination.
